We have a liar in the oval office.
James Comey, the FBI director, essentially said as much when he testified that there is “no information that supports” our so-called president Donald Trump’s claim that Barack Obama wiretapped the phones at Trump Tower.
Comey also revealed that the FBI is engaged in an active and ongoing investigation of possible links between Russia and the Trump campaign. The investigation has been underway since July.
That announcement kind of sucked all the air out of the room, as many committee members were unaware of it. Now maybe we’ll finally get to the bottom of the unusual web of connections between all the president’s men and Russian intelligence.
One of the president’s men, Paul Manafort, was chairman of Trump’s campaign during the crucial period surrounding the GOP convention. He was even viewed as the savior of the Trump campaign. But Sean Spicer today lied that Manafort had only a “very limited role” in the campaign.
Manafort, you’ll recall, had ties with pro-Putin Ukrainian dictator Viktor Yanukovich, as well as strongmen Ferdinand Marcos, Mobutu Sese Seko and Jonas Savimbi.

The president tweeted during the hearing, “The NSA and FBI tell Congress that Russia did not influence electoral process.” But Comey and NSA Director Michael S. Rogers said that wasn’t what they said at all. Comey said, “It certainly wasn’t our intention to say that today.”
Can you smell the desperation? Maybe the baying bloodhounds are closing in or are on the verge of treeing the The Donald.
Committee member Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) asked pointed questions today of Comey and Rogers, highlighting the fact that Russia is very much our adversary. One wonders what the Trump team could possibly be up to, getting in bed with the country Mitt Romney called America’s biggest geopolitical foe.
I think the truth will out.
Meanwhile, the Trump White House steps up the lying to cover whatever it is they’re hiding. As Rep. Speier said today, “The real fake news in all this is coming from our president.”
